Editor's Note: A representative of Best Western in Lumberton, NC finally gave us a call after we contacted the Corp office in AZ about this dirty chair in our room. They said it was a mistake using the stained chair in one of their rooms and credited our one night stay there. Thank you.

 

Where else can you look out your backyard and see the water, a boat, a bike? Well, if you don't live on the water you can visit many spots in the area that are. It's a great place to live, ya think?

 

 


We always wanted to catch an in focus shot of a butterfly. Here we caught one feeding on Tithonia flowers. Notice how the top of the wing has red accents while the bottom of the wing doesn't.

 

 

Here we are on the East Coast of the United States at sunrise on the beach. Where are we? We know it's a tough one, but we'll have more clues later or check our page.

 

 


The northern end of Anna Maria Island shot on our way to NYC. And you wonder why we love it here?

 

We caught a shot of this gorgeous island as we flew out on our New York Road Trip. Does anyone know the name of this island? If so please let us know on our 

 

 


How could you miss this young lady along U.S. 41 asking if you wanted your car windows tinted? She gets paid $10 an hour and all the sun she can handle.

 

Well we could have a contest for the best rear on Siesta Key Beach, but then not)

 

 


One step closer to the moon as seen this morning through the OurTown Sarasota camera lense. Some leafs from a tree outlines the moon.

 

Two Pelicans sit guard on the intra-coastal facing into the wind. Still pristine, still full of life, enjoy.

 

 

These happy campers had just come down from the Ringling Bridge on a tour of Sarasota. They are headed for Island Park now.

 

 

 

 

On our cross state tour we went through the quaint town of Arcadia. This is their restored train station. On Sunday they were having 1st communions at churches and the busiest place in town was the McDonald's.

 

 

A young man serenades a young lady while waiting for a school bus. Who says romanticism is on the wane.

 

 

We watched this black snake swirl across the the top of a fence and then do the same across a gate above. Taking the high ground we see:) It sort of adds to the decoration of the gate.

 

 

 

 


Sarasota Polytechnical High School students laid out 88? pair of shoes along Beneva Road Wednesday to represent how many Floridians die each day from cigarette related deaths. Flip flops moved out of line as wind mass from large trucks along the road blew them.

 

The bride makes off with the photographer, well not really. They are just taking photos at the beach before the wedding.

 

 

What more can be said, a Sarasota sign that says a  'new sign coming'. Very puzzling:) We can't wait.

 

 

The Pine View school Save Darfur Club raises money at Sam's Club by selling hot dogs Saturday. Great job!

 

 

 

 

Nik Wallenda from the Circus Sarasota makes his first building to building high wire walk in Sarasota Thursday morning. It was covered by all the major and local media. The 600' walk at over 200' took about 20 minutes with a few stops to kneel and then lay down on the wire midstream which the crowd loved.

 

 

 

This poodle knew how to fit in and take advantage of people with dog biscuits. He could wear his sunglasses regular style or on his head, way kwel dog. Obviously, he is the designated driver because he is drinking water:) 

 

 

 

Winter winds drove this young man to use Mother Nature  and his Mother's umbrella to help speed up his skateboarding.

 
 

"Would you like to swing on a star, carry moonbeams home in a jar, be better off than you are, or would you rather be a . .........?" Starry moon over Sarasota this weekend during the daylight.

 

 

We caught this blimp over Casey Key. An observer told us they look quite but are very noisy riding on them.

Home, home on the range, this is what you'll find in Eastern Sarasota County. It's like going back 100 years.

 

 

If you think our economy is bad take a trip to Lawtey, FL, it's almost vacant in terms of retail.

VW Beattles were the largest selling vehicle of all time. Over 40 readers responded with their fond VW memories.

If this person had a handicapped card hanging from the mirror or a handicapped tag we sure didn't see it. You would think it would be difficult getting in and out of a low slung Jaguar if you are handicapped.

One of the bridges going over the Wantagh State Parkway towards Jones Beach. Both of these were constructed by Robert Moses the Master Builder of New York in the early 19th century.

 

We had to pick our tomato harvest before they ripened for fear they would have died on the vine from the heat. Temps had been hitting 100. Now it's Fried Green Tomatoes time:)

 

 

These ladies floating high above us in the Gulf off of Siesta Key give us a toe point wave Friday.

 

 

 

 

Jake the fisherman's boat sits at dock overlooking the intra-coastal on Tuesday afternoon. Jake fishes for Stone crab.

 

 

We got tired of the humdrum dinners and made up a medley of asparagus, bella mushrooms, red pepper and onions with some shrimp and yellow rice. Topped it off with a lemon and virgin oil, yum!

 

 

 

A cool road to take if you are crossing Florida to the East coast or vis a versa is 714, it's a two lane tree lined road that is way relaxing. Enjoy.

 

Momma Cardinal sits the the nest she made watching over her new babies in a Ficus tree over the weekend. Poppa Cardinal races around getting food and guarding the nest.

 

 

The OurTown Sarasota Board of Directors met on Friday to discuss world issues such as what's for dinner, sleeping in, and whose seeing who. As you can see we have an eclectic group:)

 


There has been a lot of discussion about our local wild life disappearing from building on vacant land. We caught this Florida Bobcat on a Sarasota County preserve located in Gulf Gate Woods on Saturday afternoon. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw us.

 

 

Sarasota has it's own Amish community in the Pinecraft area with around 3,500 residents. Here some visit Siesta Key Beach.

Surf's up at Siesta Key Beach Saturday and this surfer and dozens of other surfers took advantage of the chilly 61 degree surf that actually had waves due to high winds.

 

 

Larry Evans of Venice caught this photo of an American Bald Eagle at the Venice Beach Thursday. The bird was first seen swimming in the Gulf. The Eagle was captured and taken to a Nokomis Vet to check it out because it couldn't fly after the Gulf swim.

 

 

 

 

 

With cold weather up north these Robin Red Breasts descended on Sarasota Sunday. Thousands of them flew in a frenzie when not landed seemingly celebrating the warmer weather.  Robins may average only 15-25 miles per day, while near the end of migration they may average 100! Some individual robins may go 200 miles in a single flight.

 

 

We love this local scene of a nice young couple strolling with the baby. The man even got it right walking on the outside lane:) Hey, he better he's got a cowboy hat on, he's the real man.

 

 

 

Sea fog rolls onto Siesta Key Beach late Friday. You couldn't see more then a few hundred feet in  front of you. Hopefully no boaters were caught in it.

 

 

 

Welcome to our first 2010 citing of the Sarasota Sea Otter on the bank of a bayou that feeds into the intracoastal. His (her) partner had already scooted into the pond.

 

 

Ice forms on a heater as it discharges water. Temps Saturday and  Sunday night are expected to be in the upper 20's .
